tax credits

We are celebrating the passage of the bailout bill in the renewable energy industry.

Some of the "sweeteners" added to the bill by the house were our renewable energy tax credits. The production tax credit for wind gets another year of life and the investment tax credit for solar gets eight. There is also funding for new bonds and a new provision allowing utilities to benefit from tax credits.

So they weren't allowed to expire on the Bush administration's watch. But as I've said, they werent' renewed early enough (they would have expired at the end of the year) and the damage was done.

I'm also not terribly happy that the life-blood of my industry is a bridge-to-nowhere pork add-on. It should be able to pass on its own merits. Politicians talk about it enough.
