If you want to be able to speak intelligently about the current financial crisis...
The public radio show "This American Life" has done an hour describing what's happened and what's happening with the crisis and bailout, " Another Frightening Show About the Economy". It is a follow-up to their show that describes the working of the mortgage crisis, "The Giant Pool of Money".
These shows are simply genius in their ability to inform about crucial and complicated issues in an easy and entertaining way. I would be so much more comfortable if every US citizen was required to listen to these two hours of programming. (I'd be satisfied if our leadership did.)
