wasted a perfectly good hour
Man, today started out special. The first caller to CarTalk (Segment 2)this morning had my car. She described a Jeep, with a manual transmission, that was the same model year. Not only that, she described a problem that I am having! I tell you what, the stars have to be aligned in your favor for something like that to happen. The advice could have been more helpful -- they basically told me what I already knew, which is that the hydraulic clutch system in that jeep is not very good.
Unfortunatly, it wasn't all fun and games this morning. I recieved an e-mail from the admissions office at Stanford. I contacted them weeks ago to verify that they had my application materials from two years ago. They didn't get back to me, but I knew that it was their policy to keep the files, so I put together my application assuming that they had a certain amount of material. They wrote me last night (a week after their deadline) at 8pm to tell me that they could not find that file. They then closed up the office. When I tried to follow up, I got an autoresponse saying that the office will be closed for the next two weeks!
Happily, the application problem was an anomoly. My day has continued to be charmed. I just came from a great swim, the first good swim I've had in what seems like months. And now I'm off to go and hang out with (newly engaged) Mike and Amanda in Chicago. See, a good day.
